CCAR presents to NAAHAC at COSTHA

You’ve heard the phrase “can’t tell the players without a scorecard”; well, how about you can’t decipher the acronyms without an ‘insider’.

Earlier this week the Coordinating Committee for Automotive Repair (CCAR) was offered the opportunity to speak with a very select group of people; the North American Automotive Hazmat Action Committee (NAAHAC) while the group was gathered for the annual Council on Safe Transportation of Hazardous Materials Articles (COSTHA) conference. The presenter was yours truly – CCAR Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Charlie Ayers (CEA).

NAAHAC is comprised of almost all of the automotive Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and the presentation focused on what’s new with CCAR’s HazmatU online training program as well as what the group can expect in the very near future. The multi-modal and surface transport courses have been translated into Spanish, and CCAR is looking for beta-testers to review the newly-translated content.

Other updates shared with the group included;

  • Basic Description Sequence Change

  • Emergency Response Phone Number Requirements

  • New Packing Instructions (Air)

  • Excepted Quantities

  • New Limited Quantity Markings

  • Phase Out of Consumer Commodity, ORM-D

  • New Automotive Hazardous Materials Parts Descriptions

  • Globally Harmonized System for Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS)

  • New Hazard Communication Requirements

  • Safety Data Sheets – GHS format

(thanks to Steve Hunt – our partner at Shipmate – for providing the content that is bulleted above)

The presentation is available in its entirety under the ‘news’ section at our HazmatU website (www.hazmatu.org).

As always, please remember “SCG” and keep it Safe, Clean, and Green…
