Technician Killed When Car Falls Off Lift

A Richmond auto worker was killed after a car fell off a lift and landed on him Monday morning.
The incident occurred at around 11 a.m. at Auto Repair El Flaco, located in the 5200 block of Hull Street Road.

Police told 8News that a vehicle fell off a lift and landed on the victim, who was pronounced dead shortly after first responders arrived.
Friends at the scene identified the victim as Hilmer Lopez.
Those who knew Lopez came to the body shop to pray together and express their grief Monday after hearing the news.

Those who knew him said that Lopez always had a smile on his face.
“It’s a freak accident, but it’s a shame,” said Lester Gredy, Sr. who said he knew Lopez. “He was a really nice guy. Had his life ahead of him. He was a hard worker, you know? He was always here, every time I came up here, he was always here. It’s a shame.”

Police said that next of kin have been notified.
