CCAR is pleased to announce that Stellantis continues to take action to keep all U.S. and Canadian dealers hazmat trained

Stellantis has renewed their commitment to using “HazmatU” for its network of dealers as part of their mandatory Hazardous Material Training Program

Stellantis has selected the Coordinating Committee for Automotive Repair (CCAR) to be their hazardous materials training and program management partner for (a minimum of) another three (3) years.

Since the launch of their mandatory Hazardous Materials Training Program in 2016, CCAR has trained thousands of Stellantis dealer staff across the U.S. and Canada with online access to their suite of HazmatU training courses.

Stellantis dealer staff can easily access the HazmatU training by clicking on the Training tab within their proprietary online DealerCONNECT platform. Several existing Stellantis vehicles — including the Pacifica plug-in hybrid electric vehicle, and vehicles with the 48v eTorque system — contain batteries which are considered hazardous materials by both the U.S. Department of Transportation as well as by Transport Canada.

“Stellantis’ commitment to keep training their U.S. and Canadian dealer staff using HazmatU is another demonstration of their focus on Hazardous Material handling best-practices encompassing more than 3,000 U.S. and Canadian dealers,” said Charlie Ayers, CCAR President. “We are proud that our long-standing partnership with Stellantis and MOPAR has been solidified for the years to come.”

Thanks largely to the strong partnership, CCAR is proud to share that approximately 99% of all Stellantis dealers across the U.S and Canada are currently in compliance with the aforementioned mandatory Training Program.

Since 2005, CCAR has partnered with ShipMate, Inc. to provide online Hazardous Materials Transportation training that fulfills the regulatory training obligations for the transport of dangerous goods by any mode.

HazmatU®, CCAR’s online web-based hazmat transportation training program, has been set up for use by the entire Stellantis U.S. and Canadian dealer network and for all dealership staff that work with air bag modules or inflators, and other hazardous materials such as lithium batteries, seat belt pretensioners, shocks, used engines, batteries, and paint.

CCAR and ShipMate offer a suite of courses available under the HazmatU brand, including;

  • HMT-0402 Surface Transportation of Automotive Hazardous Materials
  • HMT-0402S Surface Transportation of Automotive Hazardous Materials (in Spanish)
  • HMT-0422 Surface Transportation of Automotive Dangerous Goods – Canada
  • HMT-0422F Surface Transportation of Automotive Dangerous Goods – Canada (in French)

Each course includes a series of training modules, learning assessments, glossary, Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs), and a Web-Based Training Library that includes additional links, resources, downloadable files and other supplementary information. Each course is also professionally narrated. Following completion of the course of instruction, each student is provided a comprehensive final exam. Students that successfully complete the exam are awarded a Certificate of Completion.

These courses conform to and meet the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Hazardous Material Regulations (HMR) training requirements for:

  • General Awareness & Familiarization
  • Hazardous Materials Security Awareness
  • DOT General Safety
  • Function-Specific Training (Automotive Hazardous Materials)

The Transport of Dangerous Goods (Canada) course(s) fulfills Transport Canada’s dangerous goods training requirements for those dealers in Canada’s territories and provinces, including the Maritimes.

HazmatU is available for a $329 annual subscription per facility, which allows a dealership to train an unlimited number of employees during the year.
