Safer Driving, Happier Holiday
For many of us, the holidays mean joining millions on the road to travel to see family and loved ones. During a time of year when the weather is often unpredictable and even dangerous, holiday travel can mean taking extra caution when driving during icy or snowy conditions. Whatever your holiday plans entail, the Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has created an interactive set of winter driving tips to help inform you, your family, and others on ways to drive safely during the winter months.
The online, interactive tool provides helpful tips to prepare you for your driving trip. Explore the landscape as you move from milder weather to icy and snowy conditions and learn tips and tools to protect your car and your passengers. Among other advice, the winter driving tips tool explains the importance of:
· Inspecting tires before driving in icy or snowy conditions
· Knowing how your car handles in different weather conditions
· Checking your battery to prevent break downs, with specific information for owners of electric and hybrid-electric vehicles
· And more!
NHTSA also reminds people to perform routine maintenance checks and know their route in advance of hitting the road. Planning now may help prevent complications on the road and increase the likelihood for a safe and happy holiday season.
